For serious. That instrument is sooooo much cooler than most people I know.
There are so many different mallets to choose from to get the sound I want - and just when I think I'm never going to make any progress with the technique, I nail a flipping fast Green Scale and surprise myself (and, incidentally, the redheaded boy who plays the upper octave, who laughs like a girl but is still kind of cute in a two-years-younger-than-me sort of way.)
Plus, Chad's said we can throw dynamics out the window for the first few practices, so I'm allowed to beat the snot out of it.
It is fantastic stress relief. ;)
